History

The South Florida Center for Cosmetic Surgery is the largest cosmetic surgery center in South Florida with locations in Miami and Fort Lauderdale. The Center had been in business for more than 9 years and was originally called the Florida Center for Cosmetic Surgery. In the past, its extensive use of edgy commercials combined with its now famous jingle, "just one look is worth a thousand words", made the Center a household name in much of South Florida.

The Center historically has provided clients with more than 3000 cosmetic procedures a year putting it in the league of performing as much surgery as many small hospitals. The physicians who perform surgery at the Center work as independent contractors. The most popular procedures at the Center are breast augmentation, liposuction and tummy tucks, although the Center provides a full range of other cosmetic surgery procedures, spa services, and cosmetic dentistry.

Because there is risk associated with any surgery the Center's surgeons are committed to assuring that each potential client is an appropriate candidate for his or her surgery. During its previous nine years of business, the Center had performed well over 25,000 cosmetic procedures and had never been sued and lost a case where serious malpractice was alleged. Given the large number of cosmetic surgery procedures performed at the Center, this speaks highly for the Center's record of safety.

At the Center, the patient’s decision process begins with the patient filling out a Discovery Guide which looks at the client's motives and expectations for the surgery. These issues are then discussed with the client by both the surgeon and their personal consultant. It is the desire of each surgeon to assure that every client has realistic expectations. We believe it is important to explain that cosmetic surgery is both an art and a science. The goal is to improve the cosmetic appearance of the client and assure realistic expectations are achieved.

The review process is also aided by an opportunity to examine a large selection of "before and after" pictures, and a lengthy questions and answer consultation. This entire education/consultation process is offered to the patient at no cost. Once this phase of the process is complete, the client is ready to move to the final phase of the surgery consideration process. Each client is given an extensive pre-operative exam that includes a health history and examination, EKG's for all clients over 40 years of age, and pregnancy tests for all female clients. In addition each client is provided with documentation that describes the risks associated with the surgery being considered. Finally, in some situations there are additional consultations conducted with the client's regular physicians to assure that they are appropriate candidates for surgery.

Once all this is completed, the client will again meet with his or her individual consultant to arrange payment terms. Like many medical professionals who offer elective surgery today, we offer a wide range of payment options.

The Center itself is licensed by the state of Florida. The Center has also contracted with a quality control consultant, Universal Healthcare Consultants, to create the safest possible environment for surgery. The results of these efforts have been well worth the investment; the Center passed its last state inspection with "commendation". The examiner stated in her paperwork that the Center:
